Australia: Dozens of South Australians dying while waiting for a Housing Trust home

An increasing number of South Australians are dying while waiting for a Housing Trust home.

Over the past year, 54 people have died waiting, an increase on the 30 who died in 2010 and 46 in 2011.

The statistics are not reported by the Housing Trust but were extracted using Freedom of Information legislation.

Family First MLC Robert Brokenshire said the about 20,000 on the Housing Trust waiting list deserved to be told that it was unlikely they would ever be helped. Read more.

Dog attacks double in Sutton since 2010

Dog attacks have doubled in Sutton since 2010.

Figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request show that the borough is bucking a London-wide trend and is seeing dog attacks on the increase.

Instances where a person has allowed a dog to be dangerously out of control and injuring someone in a public place have risen from nine in 2010 to 19 already this year.

Sutton is one of only seven boroughs across the capital’s 32 which has seen a rise in attacks. Read more.
